Bastian

Bastiàn is an Istrian winery founded by Petra and Ivan Leko and named after Saint Sebastian, one of the patron saints of Buje. It farms 30 hectares of vineyards around Buje on the white marl-sandstone soil, with its best plots in the Kaštanjari and Cupiga micro-locations at 95 to 170 metres above sea level. The vineyards are up to about ten years old and are grown organically, with Istrian Malvasia the dominant variety alongside Merlot, Refosco, Teran, Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Pinot Noir and Sauvignon Blanc. The range runs to about ten labels, led by a fresh Istrian Malvasia, a Merlot and a rosé blended from Merlot and Cabernet Franc. The cellar and tasting room are in Buje, where the estate also shows its olive oil and brandies.
